Questions patients ask
How soon can I talk to a doctor?
The booking page shows every open time, and you pick the one that suits you. Most patients book a visit for the same day; if you book in the evening, the first open time is usually the next morning. At your appointment time, the doctor phones you.
Is it free?
The phone visit is covered by the B.C. Medical Services Plan (MSP), so there is no charge for the visit itself and no booking or membership fee. Forms and notes that MSP doesn’t pay for may carry a fee.
Is it a phone call or a video call?
A phone call. At your appointment time the doctor calls the number you gave when you booked, so there is no app to download and no camera needed. For a skin concern, you can attach photos when you book.
Who can book?
Anyone in British Columbia with valid B.C. MSP coverage. You will need your B.C. Services Card (health card) number when you book. If you don’t have B.C. coverage, or your card is from another province, email [email protected] and we’ll let you know your options.
Do I need a referral, or to already be a patient here?
No referral is needed — you can book directly online. Choose a time, tell us briefly what the appointment is about, and you are booked.
Is this a virtual walk-in clinic?
You don’t need to be a registered patient or have a referral: anyone in B.C. with MSP can book an open time online, and a licensed B.C. doctor phones you. All visits are by phone — there are no in-person visits at our mailing address.
How does the appointment actually work?
You choose an available time when you book. At that time, the physician phones you at the number you gave us, so you can take the call at home, at work, or anywhere in B.C. Please be somewhere you can talk privately and have your health card nearby.
What if I need a test, or need to be seen in person?
Not everything can be sorted out over the phone. If your physician needs lab work, imaging, or a hands-on examination, they will arrange the requisition or referral, or direct you to the right in-person care.
Is my information private?
Yes. Your appointment and your health information are handled under British Columbia privacy law, and your visit is documented in a secure medical record kept by the clinic.
What should I not use this for?
Anything urgent or severe. Emergencies belong in an emergency department — call 911. For after-hours advice about whether something is urgent, call 811 to speak with a registered nurse, any time of day. A phone visit can’t replace a hands-on examination; if you need one, your doctor will tell you where to go. Because of the limits of telehealth, we may not be able to provide work or school notes or complete forms.
